I really like all the different fonts and text styles that you utilized in this poem. I feel like it makes the poem more appealing to the eye. You have many different facts in the poem, as well as inspiring quotes. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI think that the different fonts and sizes of the text really show readers what you want to emphasize about Pete Rose's life. It's clever to end the stanza of his achievements with "Just to name a few" as it illustrates just how much he accomplished in baseball and how it was wiped away with a few stupid actions. The last line really strikes on the fact that we all make mistakes, but aren't as punished as Pete Rose was. It emphasizes humanity and the fact that we can still remain heroes even though we are flawed.
ReplyDeleteI loved watching Pete Rose and, as your found poem notes, he's still a hero to many even though he broke the most sacred rule in baseball (gambling--not steroids!). You can develop this poem even more, and build more complexity and meaning, by exploring more of the cultural or historical significane of baseball. That would require some key longer lines and perhaps a defining metaphor or repetition.
