I'm not sure exactly what topic we should go with but I think it should be in the 20th century because there will just be so much more to work with we could incorporate videos and blogs? What do you guys think?

I feel like there are many things that we don't know about in regards to Native Americans. The conflict described in this podcast is just another one of these interactions. In talking about the Lakota, the narrators really convey the idea of white man just invading and taking whatever we want. When they describe the plaque in the beginning of the podcast, it made it sound as if the Native Americans were the ones responsible for the violence that took place. This obviously led to an even larger conflict and resulted in mutual hostility. Without this podcast, I wouldn't have known about this. As far as I know, Native Americans were just shoved aside by the United States government and there really was no violence between those on reservations and the rest of the US. The Pine Ridge project also opened my eyes on this. Looking through Aaron Huey's pictures gave me an in depth look at what the Native Americans really live like. The appear as if they have been robbed of everything they have. Huey does exactly what he aims to do with his photos.

"Little War on the Prairie"

The podcast of the Lakota Indians was very compelling in my eyes. I have never heard of this event and I am glad my eyes have been opened to it because now I have learned about something that is very significant and important to so many and it makes me feel more knowledgeable and understanding. By studying the Pine Ridge I have gained insight for this story in many ways. Especially in Native American culture in general. Unfortunately I did not learn enough about Native Americans in my previous school years and that was something that I always had unanswered questions about. By studying the Pine Ridge I learned many traditions and ways of life practiced by the Native Americans and this helped me while listening to this podcast. Some similar aspects I noticed was their overall emotion towards events that involved their people in a negative way. I feel as if it really effected them, past or present. They both seemed to be very passionate about their people and what they go through. A difference that really stood out to me was the overall time period. Although this was an obvious difference, it was something that really stood out to me. The present day Pine Ridge people just seemed to have a different look/way about them. There are so many things I can take out of listening to this podcast and incorporate into our group "Living Newspaper" project. For example, all the different aspects of the Pine Ridge and Lakota people is something we could use in our project and we could use several examples/stories to provide evidence and insight.

Pine Ridge

I thought that the podcast of the Lakota Indians was very interesting. It had a lot of information that I had never heard before. I really could not believe how much sacrifice these Native Americans really went through. I'm not sure what I think about them killing 5 settlers there and I definitely think that someone needed to be held responsible. It was sad to learn what the settlers had done to them however. It was cruel and unusual punishment to hold all of the Native Americans responsible and that is shameful to what we stand for in the United States. Also, holding over 300 of them on trial and then to be hung was ridiculous. Lincoln did the right thing by narrowing down the list by a great deal but as I said before someone did have to be held responsible. I also think it was wrong to ban them from the state completely but looking back now I think if they would of stayed there they would of faced more and more hardships. One thing that really made me cringe was the settlers taking baby's out of Native American women's hands and throwing them down to kill them. This is so awful and cruel for any human being to do that at that time I felt embarrassed to call myself an American.

Living News Project

For the Living Newspaper Project, I think it would be interesting to take a focus on Native Americans, more specifically in the 1930s. I feel like we've touched on African Americans and Whites, but we have yet to discuss much about the Native American people during the Great Depression Era. Did they experienced what other groups of people experienced? Did the fact that they were on their own reservations prevent them from going through trials of the Great Depression? For those who no longer lived on reservations, what was life like at the time? How were they treated during this time overall? I feel that there are many questions to be answered here. Throughout my education and discussion of the Great Depression Era, I have encountered very little information on this group of people and that is why I believe it would be an interesting topic. Either that or the lifestyle of the Native Americans now. I also hear very little about their lives now. Anything that looks in depth in the lives of Native Americans will be a step back and a bit refreshing than just the norm.

Living Newspaper Project

I think a really interesting topic for our group living newspaper would be to talk about the educational system in current time. This is a broad topic but I think it would be very easy to narrow down. I like this topic because it is an important issue today and very controversial. People argue if our educational systems in the United States are as up to par as other countries. This would be an easy topic to find numerous debates on and also personal documentaries. I like this topic because it relates to us as students and we would be able to put a lot of our input and decisions into the presentation. Also, I think it is important to have a topic that we have some knowledge of so it makes it easier to focus on the quality of the project.

Group project proposal

I think that we should do women's rights in the 1950 because its a time period I don't know much about and I would love to learn more. I also have a grandmother who is turning 100 this year and I could talk to her and her roles at home during this time.

Living Newspaper Proposal

For our Living Newspaper project I propose we make our topic Women Movements in the 1950s. There are many types of media that we could incorporate in our presentation that would help us demonstrate the struggles and accomplishments of the women in the past and what they have done for our country today. We could use a movie, older or newer, that has a feminine lead that demonstrates women rights. Also, there are many songs we could include with a central theme. I can imagine many pieces of art that would help us demonstrate the Women Movements, especially artwork that was done in the 1950s. Also, if we choose a woman activist of that time period we could really provide crucial details if we provided a speech she gave during the time. A woman I have in mind for this area of the project is Carol Hanisch. She is known for many important ideas towards the feminist movement of this specific time. This time period is also known as the “second wave” of the feminist movement and we could incorporate this term in our project as well. The reason I chose this topic is because of the emotional attachment I have towards it. As a woman of this time, I believe the actions of women in the past play a key role concerning the women in this country today. What would women be dealing with today if these influential women had never spoken up? Because of the several Women Movements in the past, we have so many rights and privileges as women citizens today in the United States of America. For that very reason I believe this is an eligible topic we could easily use for our Living Newspaper Project.

Region

So the moment I chose isn't one that really impacted my life, but more so just one that is very interesting compared to the rest of my ventures. I pole vaulted on the track team my junior and senior and I went to the regional meet both years. The region meet determines who goes to the state meet. I went to state both years. This camera eye will be based off of my senior year at region.

as soon as I hit that mat i turned around to see that bar shake   but not fall   needless to say I was feeling good  my father was creating such a racket in the crowd it was the only thing I heard  exhilaration

It wasn't the end though  both myself and the other competitor had missed the next height   received second in the competition shake the victors hand  still proud  still exhilaration  I went to state ranked fourth   pride was surging   it was going to be a good week

When will all women be treated the same as men in my small poem I tried to show how women were oppressed during this time but things where slowly getting better.
